My name is Sean Crawford. Many people know me as Sean Pix. Who is Sean Pix you ask? I am a poet. I have my own style when I perform poetry. I first started writing rap songs in fourth grade. Constanly thinking of words that rhymed so I could write more and more songs. That is when I wanted to be the next Will Smith or LL Cool J. I always wanted to be a rapper, until sixth grade when we had to do the poetry unit. I had heard of poetry, but I was never really into because I heard it was boring. My teacher gave us a chance to write our own poems. We started off with haikus. My was about Athens and ended with Sparta. My teacher liked it so much that she used it for years as an example for her other classes. I am trying to track down my teacher to find the poem and let her know how much she has impacted my life.
I have loved poetry ever since then. I still wanted to rap but in a different way. I began to listen to Common, Taliab Kweli, Kanye West, Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill, Bob Dillian, Mos Def and many others. Then I was inspired by Def Poets Saul Williams, Shihan, Nikki Giovanni, Gemineye, Black Ice, and many more. I love poetry.
